Neighbour to neighbour: communities share the warmth

It’s cold out there when you don’t have anywhere to call home, but thanks to the efforts of local REALTORS® Greater Vancouver’s neediest residents will be a lot warmer this winter.

Between December 2 and 9, a total of 1,751 bags of blankets, coats, clothing and other donations were collected throughout Greater Vancouver as part of the eighth annual REALTORS® Care Blanket Drive, compared with 1,224 bags collected last year.

REALTORS® care about their neighbourhoods and through the Blanket Drive are able to help those in the community who need it. The outpouring of warmth and generosity from the public and the industry makes a huge difference for shelters and those who use their services.

This is the second year the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley Real Estate Board have worked together to make the annual Blanket Drive a success, and organisers plan to continue the partnership in the years to come.

Donations from the Blanket Drive went to a number of local charities including Union Gospel Mission, Triage, the Front Room, the Lookout, SAGE House, Salvation Army and other support groups.

REALTORS® are active fundraisers and volunteers throughout the year. The Blanket Drive is one of the largest team efforts in the real estate community, but is just one example of their extensive community involvement. Through membership in the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, they volunteer their time and energy year round to improve the social and economic well-being of the communities they call home.
