Second thoughts? Your REALTOR® will help

You've just bought a home in a neighbourhood you like for a price you can afford. The day after your offer is accepted you wake up in the middle of the night worrying if you’ve made the right decision.

During the next few days you repeatedly ask yourself questions such as: is the home I’ve bought is too big or too small? Should I have taken more time to explore every possible neighbourhood? Did I pay too much? What if my employer moves the company to a different city? What if interest rates go sky high and I can’t afford the payments?

You're so worried you're not sure what to do. Who do you call? Your REALTOR®. They'll know what to do and they make house calls.

They'll reassure you that you're suffering from a common reaction called "buyer's remorse." Buying a home is the largest purchase you'll likely ever make and one of the biggest commitments. It's no wonder you may get emotional.

Buyer's remorse can strike any homebuyer – whether they've just bought their first or tenth home.

To help you, your REALTOR® will likely go back over your original requirements, including your "must have's" and your "nice to have's." They'll go over your options for neighbourhoods and type of home – single family, town home or condominium.

Your REALTOR® will go over your financing and what you decided you could afford, the comparative market analysis on the home you selected and the report from the home inspector.

If you have worked with a REALTOR® from the start, your chances of experiencing buyer's remorse is lessened. This is because with your REALTOR® you've already made a list of the benefits of your home purchase. You'll know you've made the best decision for you and your family.

It may take a few more days but your buyer's remorse will pass. Congratulations on your new home!
