Friday, August 27, 1999 Vancouver Realtors golf for breast cancer(VANCOUVER, B.C.) -- Over 145 Realtors participated in the 2nd Annual Chicks with Sticks golf tournament this month to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and promote breast cancer awareness. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of event organizers and volunteers, Realtors raised more than $26,500, exceeding their original goal of $25,000. "The tournament was incredibly successful," says co-chair Cheryl Kaminsky of Re/Max Select Properties. "It was great to see so many Realtors and their friends and clients come out to support this worthy community cause." Due to an enthusiastic response, the event sold out three months in advance. "We had a waiting list of Realtors who wished to play this year," says co-chair Stephanie Corcoran of Re/Max Real Estate Services, "Many of those who weren't able to play volunteered their time to sell mulligans and raffle tickets instead." Hole sponsorships, contest sponsors and prize donors contributed to the success of the tournament. This year, three levels of sponsorship were available: Eagle ($2,500); Birdie ($1,500); and Par ($1,000). Through the generous support and community participation of several corporate sponsors, including Cantel AT &T Canada, Finning, GE Capital, Macdonald Realty and Pacific Press, this annual event was brought to a new level. One in nine Canadian women can expect to develop breast cancer during her lifetime and one in twenty-five will die from this disease. The funds raised at the Chicks with Sticks tournament will go towards the advancement of breast cancer research, diagno-sis, education and treatment in Canada. REALTORS are active fundraisers and volunteers throughout the year and this tourna-ment is but one example of their extensive community involvement. Through member-ship in the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, they volunteer their time and energy all year round to improve the social and economic well-being of the communities in which they work and live. |
